Every year, 25,000 young people between the ages of 18 and 21 must leave foster care. Most have experienced maltreatment, abuse and neglect. The lack of love, guidance and care makes it difficult to suddenly live independently and figure out on their own how to do what the foster care system was set up to do for them—feed, clothe, and house them. Many will simply “age out” of the system when they turn 18, without a family

and without the skills to make it on their own. Thankfully, all foster children have the possibility to attend college, however, due to a lack of guidance many won’t. At the age of 18, these young adults will have nowhere to go. They have no one else to rely on but themselves to get income and find housing.

This is the harsh reality of young adults that have as they call it “aged out” from the foster care system, after often been neglected and abused throughout their youth.

The Internship Project has been created to gap a real need among foster care youth.

We believe that together we can make a real difference in the lives if many young future professionals.
